If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day tomorrow, are you going out or staying in?
If you immediately thought “staying in”, I’m not surprised. Staying in is a pretty big trend these days. No crowds, no debating where to go and making reservations, no over-priced chocolate soufflé, and — perhaps best of all — home is where your favourite sofa is.
Is there any more essential piece of family room or living room décor than the sofa?
A good couch sets the tone for the entire room. Not to mention, it’s probably the piece of furniture that you’ll become the most intimately acquainted with!
Today, in my Splurge vs. Save feature, I’m talking about the beloved couch. Splurge or save on your sofa? Read on to find out!
Splurge on Sofas
True love? I think they meant to say the perfect sofa.
“Nothing compares with the finding of true love; because once you do your heart is complete.”
Finding the perfect sofa is no easy task. It has to have just the right look, to fit in with your home and to reflect your style. It has to be cozy, comfortable and accommodating. It has to be just the right size and shape. And it has to be durable, since the sofa is the workhorse of the family room.
One thing it doesn’t need to be? Cheap.
When it comes to sofas, I recommend splurging. A good sofa should last for years, and it’s smart to invest in a high-quality option.
There are a lot of great sofas available in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, and you can get higher-end versions for $2,000+. Less than $1K? Beware.
Some of my favourite places to shop for stylish, durable sofas are SUNPAN, CB2 and Wayfair.
When buying a sofa that will stand the test of time, you want to consider:
✨ Style: Pick a style that reflects your personal taste and that fits in with the rest of your home.
✨ Fabric: A high-quality sofa will have fabric and material that are more durable to wear, tear and spills.
✨ Size and shape: Single sofa, sectional, curved? Here are some helpful tips on determining the right size to buy for your space.
✨ Comfort level: Unless your sofa is purely decorative, make sure you test it out and love how it feels!
There you have it. Price is a consideration too, of course, but it shouldn’t be a top priority when searching for the perfect sofa.
