Happy New Year! Let’s raise a (virtual) glass to the New Year — cheers!

Speaking of glasses, today I’m talking all about glassware. It’s one of my favourite items to save on.

Smart designers know where to splurge and where to save. It’s an intuitive balance that lets us make the most of a budget and allows us to choose standout items without breaking the bank.

Splurging is fun. Saving can also be fun, if you know a few secrets.

Read on for my tips and tricks on how to get beautiful glassware at a bargain. Less money spent on glassware means more money left for champagne, after all!

Glassware is a requirement in every kitchen and home bar — from drinking glasses to wine glasses to mugs, goblets and flutes, we’ve all got a collection of it.

It can get pretty pricey. Crystal glassware, for example, is absolutely stunning — but it ain’t cheap.

You can often tell when you’re dealing with a special glass. It has a beautiful shape that’s pleasing to the eye, a nice weight, a special sparkle, and perhaps it’s cut glass or crystal.

Glassware is getting better and better these days though, and there are a ton of gorgeous options on the market that cost a whole lot less than those crystal champagne flutes you received as a wedding gift.

Saving on glassware is all about knowing what to look for and where to shop.

Here are my top tips and things to pay attention to:

✨ Shape — a classic, timeless shape gives the appearance of a high-quality item, even if it’s inexpensive. Opt for a classic glass shape to suit a home with classic interior design, or a more fun and unconventional shape to match a more eclectic design.

✨ Style — matching the style of your glassware to the overall style of a space’s interior design is a surefire way to make it look amazing, expensive or not. From sleek and modern designs to unique and funky options to the uber-casual (think mason jars for a rustic home or farm-style kitchen), there’s inexpensive glassware available for every home and occasion.

✨ Source — know where to shop and half your work is done. Some of my favourite places to snag beautiful, inexpensive glassware are CB2 and Wayfair. IKEA and Kitchen Stuff Plus have some great options, too.

✨ Shade — coloured glassware is a fun option to add some pizzazz inexpensively. From subtle tints to bright pops of colour, different shades of glassware are a lot of fun to play with.
