Creating a podcast has been a real labour of love. I launched The Productive Designer Podcast in May of 2020 to take a deep dive into what it really takes to run an interior design business. My intention was to provide support and resources for fellow interior design professionals to help them to intentionally design their lives and interior design businesses. I wanted to share all that I’ve learned over 20+ years in this business, and to interview bright minds and inspirational people in the worlds of interior design and business, sharing their insights and teachings with my audience. I wanted to pull back the covers on being an independent interior design professional, taking a look at what it really takes to be successful and how your definition of success is the only one that matters.
Most of all, I wanted to share the types of advice, tips, tools and resources that I wish I’d had starting out, and that I’ve learned the hard way over years of experience and a drive and dedication to ongoing learning.
If I had known when I started out how labour-intensive hosting a podcast would be, I might have never begun – but I’m so glad I did! Hosting The Productive Designer Podcast over the past 14 months has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve learned more than I could have dreamt of, have grown my network and community substantially, and have really enjoyed meeting so many incredible entrepreneurs, business people, consultants and designers. It has been so rewarding and gratifying hearing feedback from fellow interior design professionals, as well. Knowing that I’m providing value and helping to share important information really motivates me to continue with this work.
