I’m back with the latest installment of my Save vs. Splurge feature!
When working on the interior design of a residential home, a model home, or a sales office, the costs can add up quickly. You’ve got furniture, rugs, dishes, accessories, art, flooring options, paint and wallpaper, window treatments, and so much more. Knowing where to splurge and where to save can be super helpful in helping to balance your budget and end up with a space that’s beautiful, functional and comfortable.
Sometimes, quality counts and splurging is recommended. Other times, the items are OK to buy cheap.
One investment piece that’s worth shelling out some cash for is your kitchen cabinetry.
Kitchen cabinetry gets a lot of daily use, and replacing cabinets is costly. This is a good place to invest in high-quality finishes. If you try to save money on your kitchen cabinets instead, you may find things looking rough around the edges sooner than they should – especially the doors and drawer fronts.
Beautiful cabinetry will stand the test of time if you go for a classic style, and it’s one of the first things that home buyers look at when they’re shopping for a home, so it can also add to the resale value of your home if it stays in good shape.
The important thing here is to choose a style that won’t be out of date in a few years. It’s also important to go for high-quality materials. Avoid laminated finishes, as they show wear easily. Instead, opt for real wood cabinets, as they’re also re-finishable and re-paintable – so you can update them if your personal style changes over the years.
I always recommend buying high-quality cabinets if you can afford them!
